Our Orientalist frame series are made up of intricate geometric patterns and arabesques. A form of ornamentation based on vines and foliage are among the principal expressions of the Orientalist decorative arts. The designs represented in our frames have been selected from some of the magnificent buildings throughout the Oriental world. All have been meticulously redrawn and digitized. In some cases, repeating patterns have been expanded to make them more suitable for frames, but of course the essence of the design has been kept intact. Orientalist designs arrived massively in the port city of Venice in the XVI century. Renaissance artists continually used interlacing and foliate scrolls for decoration in the architecture, garden design, textiles, typography, calligraphy and other objects from everyday life. The finest examples of this art form have been brought together for this collection of frames.
