On the continuing theme of travel, we took to a trip to the  American West,  not expecting to see more than the  beautiful scenery of Lake Tahoe.  The trip home took us to the capital city of Sacramento and there we found a new love.

The Crocker Art Museum is a framers dream. So many examples of American framing were chosen and crafted to perfection.

Our favorite has to be this image of Sunday Morning in the Mines painted in 1872 by Charles Nahl. Having just learned so much history in Virginia City Nevada about the mining industry.  See how the frame is carved with miners pan, pick and shovel. A  framers vision tell the story of the Gold Rush.

Painting by Thomas Hill of a favorite spot near Boston named Waverly Oaks. The wide gilded frame is carved with an oak leaf and acorn motif.
